Week 4 of Advent: Reflections on the Coming of the Light

The Gospel reading for the Fourth Sunday of Advent declares that in Christ, “The light has come into the world” (John 3:19).  Therefore, the reflections for this week are focused on the great awareness that God the Son came to be a greater light in a great darkness.  Note that the winter solstice (the shortest/darkest day of the year) occurs during this week (on Tuesday, December 21st). Even as we are surrounded by darkness, we take hope that Jesus is the Light of the World!

Fourth Sunday of Advent
Purify our conscience, Almighty God, by your daily visitation, that your Son Jesus Christ, at his coming, may find in us a mansion prepared for himself; who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.
