Week 2 of Advent: Reflections on Repentance and Purity

This second week of Advent reminds us that we, heeding the call of St. John the Baptist, are to repent and seek purity. We are to set our hearts on being blameless people for the sake of preparing the way for Christ’s second coming and the in-breaking of his kingdom. The focus of this week is on the importance of preparation and being mindful that we are a broken and sinful people in need of God’s abounding mercy.

Second Sunday of Advent

Merciful God, who sent your messengers the prophets to preach repentance and prepare the way for our salvation: Give us grace to heed their warnings and forsake our sins, that we may greet with joy the coming of Jesus Christ our Redeemer; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
